Using Copy and Paste in a Chat Session

Introduction

Using standard copy and paste functionality, you can reuse text from other chats, emails, and most plain text sources to add content to a Chat session. You can even copy text directly from one Chat session to another Chat session or to a text file. Being able to copy and paste text makes it easy to share URLs within a Chat session.

Note:

You can copy and paste text from a Chat session to another application using shortcut keys, as shown in the following bullets. See the specific steps in this topic for options to copy discrete text or the entire contents.

  • To copy: Right-click and select Copy or use the shortcut keys CTRL + C.
  • To paste: Right-click and select the Paste option or use the shortcut keys CTRL + V.

Adding Text to a Chat Session

Steps

  1. Highlight the text (or URL) and copy it, using either of the methods mentioned in the previous note.
  2. Place your cursor in the text box of the Synapse Chat session and paste the text, using either of the methods mentioned in the previous note.

Note:
  • Text that is added to a Chat thread cannot be removed.
  • To view a web page, URLs must be copied from the Chat session to a browser. You cannot click and go directly from a Chat session to a web page.

Copying Text from a Chat Session

Steps

You can copy discrete entries or copy all of the text in a Chat session.

Copy discrete text entries.
  • Highlight the text within the Chat session and copy it, using either of the methods mentioned previously.
  • Paste the copied text in your preferred location.

Copy all of the text in a Chat session.

  • Right-click anywhere in the Chat session window and click Select All.
  • Optional: Right-click anywhere in the Chat session window and press CTRL + A.
  • Right-click anywhere in the Chat session window and click Copy.
  • Click Allow access when prompted to continue.
  • Paste the copied text in your preferred location.
