Filtering Search Results

Introduction

Synapse displays up to 2,000 results (by default) when you run a QBE (Query By Example) search. If your search returns more than the limit that is specified for your site, the following prompt displays, using your site's specified limit: More than 2,000results exist; please filter to refine your query.

Complete the following steps to narrow the focus of your search by selecting fields that require specific rather than general data. For example, entering the patient’s Accession number will narrow the focus of the QBE search considerably. Other helpful QBE fields include Patient Name and Study Date and Time.

You can add up to 4 additional search lines to the search bar for a total of 5 lines. Each search line allows you to include alternate conditions, resulting in broader search/filtering.

  • Adding search criteria (horizontally) to a search line acts as an AND condition.
  • Adding search lines (vertically) to the search bar acts an OR condition.

Note:

Multiple Row QBE is restricted to Worklists in Synapse PACS datasources. Worklists that access VNA datasources do not support this feature.

Steps

  1. Open the preferred Worklist.
  2. Click to place your cursor into a QBE field in the column located across the top of the open list.
  3. Type the text or numbers, as appropriate, in one or more columns.
    • As you type, you will see matching filter results display in the Worklist.
      • In the All Studies Worklist, studies for each patient are sorted by the QBE field you select.
      • In the Unread Studies, All Patients, and All Recent Studies Worklists, studies are sorted using the study date time. If more than one study exists for the patient with the same study date time, Synapse uses study instance UID to further sort the patient's studies.
      • QBE Worklists and other Worklists sort studies using the same strategy as their parent Worklist. Note that you are able to duplicate a Worklist and redefine the sort criteria within SWAT.
    • Once populated, the QBE fields display with a yellow background.

Note:

  • Press ENTER to open the highlighted study.
  • Text entries are not case sensitive. The more columns you use, the more refined the search.
  • When filtering for patient age, Synapse displays any study that falls within plus or minus two days of the QBE criteria.
  1. Optional: After entering search criteria, do one of the following:
