NIV Arterial AutoSummary Logic

Introduction

The AutoSummary algorithm creates language statements based on non-invasive vessel (NIV) arterial diagrams.

Vessel Diagram Auto-Summary

Lesion Statement Generation

Synapse handles certain segment properties differently because there might be properties for all segments in a lesion.

  • Statement will only include the worst Stenosis Ratio.
  • Statement will only include the waveform at the worst Stenosis Ratio.
  • Statement will only include the worst flow.

Lesion statements display in the following format:

[Doppler Velocities] increased Doppler flow velocities noted in the [vessel segment(s)] [previously treated by/on] [stenosis/restenosis], [other selected segment/lesion properties].

Note:

Synapse uses this format, if the Doppler Velocity is set to Mildly, Moderately, or Severely.

[Doppler Velocities] Doppler flow velocities noted in the [vessel segment(s)] [previously treated by/on] [stenosis/restenosis], [other selected segment/lesion properties].

Note:

Synapse uses this format, if the Doppler Velocity is set to Diminished or Absent.

[vessel segment(s)] [previously treated by/on] [stenosis/restenosis], [other selected segment/lesion properties].

Examples

Moderately increased Doppler flow velocities noted in the Left Distal Common Carotid: > 50% stenosis, Large caliber vessel, no spectral broadening.

Diminished Doppler flow velocities noted in the Left Distal External Iliac to Left Mid Superficial Femoral: Severe stenosis, velocity ratio: 6.4.

Right Proximal Superficial Femoral Artery previously treated by drug eluting stent on 5/5/2019.

Graft Statement Generation

Synapse lists the number of grafts visualized and how many are patent, diseased, occluded, or treated.

Graft statements display in the following format:

Graft Type to Vessel segment: [Pre-procedure stenosis]% stenosis, [selected segment/lesion properties]

{segment} to {segment}: [Pre-procedure stenosis]% stenosis, [selected segment/lesion properties]

Sequential graft to {segment} and {segment}:[Pre-procedure stenosis]% stenosis, [selected segment/lesion properties]

Y-graft to {segment} and {segment}: [Pre-procedure stenosis]% stenosis, [selected segment/lesion properties]

Examples

Left Proximal Superficial Femoral Artery to Left Proximal Popliteal Artery graft: Severe 90% stenosis, acute total occlusion, moderately calcified.

Right Proximal Superficial Femoral Artery to Right Proximal Popliteal Artery graft: patent.

Sequential Vein graft from Right Proximal Popliteal Artery to Right Distal Popliteal Artery: patent.

Aneurysm Statement Generation

Aneurysms display in the following format:

Vessel segment: [aneurysm size] aneurysm [selected aneurysm properties/measurements].

Vessel segment(start) to vessel segment (end): [aneurysm size] aneurysm [selected aneurysm properties/measurements].

Example

Distal Aorta: large aneurysm with neck flow measuring 2 cm by 1 cm with a length of 4 cm.

Impressions Rule

The impressions rule populates the statements into the Impression Finding field and Synapse generates statements from the vessel diagram.

Impressions statement generation priority

No Disease

No disease statement occurs if all the vessel group are normal and the study is part of the procedure class for that vessel group. Example: XA.Carotid.

No disease statements display in the following format:

There is no [vessel group] disease.

Example

There is no carotid disease.

Diseased Vessel Groups

Diseased vessel group statements display in the following format:

There is [stenosis value descriptive qualifier] [vessel group] disease.

Examples

There is obstructive lower extremity disease.

Lesions and Aneurysms

Synapse selects the diagnostic statements above to be included in the summary for obstructive or worse lesions and large aneurysms.

Lesions and Aneurysm statements display in the following format:

[Number of grafts] grafts visualized: [number of patent grafts] patent, [number of diseased grafts] diseased, [number of occluded grafts], [number of treated grafts] treated.
