Vendor Neutral Archive Overview

Introduction

Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) technology stores documents and images in a standard format, so they can be accessed by other systems.

By combining DICOM and non-DICOM data within the VNA, you will have much broader access of patient information available to you.

Note:

  • VNA studies stored in multiple tenants might open slower, possibly causing timeouts and failure if the time exceeds one minute.
  • See your System Administrator to increase the timeout for Proxy service in the IIS configuration.

Non-DICOM Data Available

In addition to DICOM images, you are able to access and view non-DICOM data such as patient pictures, blood test results, documents, and more, without leaving the Synapse PACS system.

  • The option to open Synapse VNA studies is integrated through the Global Worklists options
  • When you select Synapse VNA as a datasource, the studies that display are studies that have been archived and aggregated for disbursement through the Synapse VNA
  • Synapse VNA studies are available in the All Studies Global Worklist
  • Because Synapse VNA information originates from outside of the Synapse database, features which are specific to Synapse PACS studies are not available within Synapse PACS while viewing a Synapse VNA study
  • Worklist, PowerJacket, and Viewer screens will look a bit different
  • No support for automatic workflow
  • Context menu options are specific to VNA functionality
  • You can also use web query to access DICOM and non-DICOM data stored in the VNA. Synapse VNA supports the following three parameters through the All Studies Worklist:
    • Accession Number (if it exists)
    • Patient ID
    • Study Instance EUID
