Draft Status Handling for PowerScribe Users

Introduction

The Draft Status Handling feature allows you to continue a study that you previously started and easily find it again in your Reservations Worklist at a later time.

Note:

For multiple studies:

  • The Synapse study status can only progress forward and not backward. For example, if PowerScribe sends a preliminary study status and the Synapse status is Finalized, the study status remains as Finalized.
  • If PowerScribe study status matches or is great than the Synapse study status, the Synapse study remains the same.
  • If the RIS StudyID datasource configuration in PowerScribe is set, then Synapse does not update the associated study statuses and only updates the current study status.

Clicking the PowerScribe Draft Button

This feature provides additional functionality when you click the Draft button while dictating a study from the Unread Studies Worklist using PowerScribe.

  • Synapse skips the study.
  • Synapse automatically creates a reservation for you.
  • Based on your F8 user settings, the next study displays or you are returned to the Unread Studies Worklist.
  • The Reservations Worklist displays the study (that you marked as Draft in PowerScribe).

Clicking the PowerScribe Preliminary Button

Whether or not you have dictation privileges, this feature provides additional functionality when you click the Preliminary button while working with studies from the Unread Studies Worklist using PowerScribe.

Note:

The following options are site dependent for multiple studies:

  • If PowerScribe sends Synapse a study status of Pending Signature and Preliminary Status Workflow is enabled in SWAT, the study status for all associated accession numbers in Synapse is Preliminary.
  • If PowerScribe sends Synapse a study status of Pending Signature and Preliminary Status Workflow is not enabled in SWAT, the study status for all associated accession numbers in Synapse is Dictated.

Steps

  • Use one of the following options, based on your dictation privileges and workflow needs.

Users With Dictation Privileges

Users Without Dictation Privileges

Synapse provides the same functionality that you expect when you press F8 within Synapse:

You have the option to reserve the study for yourself, or to reserve the study for another user.

  • Synapse marks the study as Dictated and removes it from the Unread Studies Worklist.
  • If your site is configured to do so, Synapse receives a preliminary report from PowerScribe.
  • Based on your F8 workflow settings, the next study displays or Synapse returns you to the Unread Studies Worklist.

Based on our workflow settings, the next study displays or Synapse returns you to the Unread Studies Worklist.

Viewing Dictated By Information

PowerJacket includes a column labeled, Dictated By. Use the Dictated By column in conjunction with the Status column to quickly identify who signed a report and its current status. If your dictation system is capable of sending both primary interpreter and secondary interpreter fields, Synapse will use those fields to display information as noted in the table in the following steps.

Note:

These options are site dependent for multiple studies and require the Dictation privilege:

  • If PowerScribe sends Synapse a study status of Finalized, the study status for all associated accession numbers in Synapse is set to Dictated.
  • If PowerScribe sends Synapse a study status of Corrected or Addendum, the study status for all associated accession numbers in Synapse is set to Dictated.

Steps

  • Use one of the following options, based on your dictation privileges and workflow needs.

When you select this option...

Synapse displays this information....

Click Preliminary.

Synapse looks first for the secondary interpreter field and uses that information to populate the Dictated By column.

If no secondary interpreter information is available, Synapse uses the primary interpreter field to populate the Dictated By column.

Note: When a report is finalized, Synapse updates the Status column and it updates the Dictated By column using the primary interpreter field.

Click Sign.

Synapse uses the information in the primary interpreter field to populate the Dictated By column.
