Using F8 Automated Reading Workflow

Introduction

If you have dictation privileges, you have the option to use the F8 automated reading workflow while working through a study Worklist or QBE Worklist.

  • The automated workflow feature is available using either manual dictation or the PowerScribe voice recognition system.
  • The automated workflow functionality finalizes the report of the open study and, based on your preference, displays the next available study.

Prerequisites

  • You must have dictation privileges. Please review the safety notice concerning third-party dictation systems.
  • Be sure to configure your dictation and workflow preferences. See Configuring Workflow Settings.
  • If you are using PowerScribe, you must be logged in and have the Synapse Desktop Agent installed on your workstation. See Desktop Agent Overview .

Note:

To end the automatic workflow and return to the Worklist, click the red X on the top right of the Viewer.

Steps

  1. Open a study Worklist or QBE Worklist.
  2. Optional: Hover over the Microphone to view the tooltip: The study is currently opened in a dictation system.
  3. When you have finished reading the study, press F8 or click the Sign button to mark this report and study status as Dictated, close the study, and move to the next study.

Note:

  • F8 automated workflow can still be used to mark studies dictated in Synapse and follow workflow settings even when using manual dictation system methods.
  • The dictation banner is used to indicate the current study is not the study currently open in the dictation system. It does not display when the current study is the one open in the dictation system or when no study is open in the dictation system. The default banner content displays the following text: A Different Study has been Notified to the Dictation System. The banner is customizable through the SWAT tool.
  • When you press F8 before you have reviewed all the images in a study, Synapse automatically displays the SSM and the message All Images in the study have not been viewed.

The following features are part of the automated dictation workflow.

Feature

Description

Automatically opening the next available study.

You can configure the behavior of F8 (Dictate Next) and F9 (Skip Next) keys for automated workflow.

Automatically skipping open studies.

If another user has already opened an unread study and that user has dictation privileges, if configured, the workflow macro skips that study and opens the next available unread study.

Exiting automated workflow before reading all studies.

If you want to exit the workflow before reading or dictating all studies in the Worklist, press ALT + F8 to mark the study dictated, or ALT+ F9 to skip the study. After pressing either key, the studies list displays again.

Concurrency alert.

When another user with dictation privileges is viewing the same study that you open, a concurrency alert message displays letting you know that another user has that study open.

Marking the study dictated.

After marking a study dictated, the study does not appear in the Unread folder.

Desktop Agent

The Synapse Desktop Agent integrates your third-party dictation system with Synapse. You must log into Synapse through the Desktop Agent's right-click menu whenever you intend to use Synapse and your dictation system together.
See Logging Into and Out of Synapse.
