Initiating a Synapse Chat Session

Introduction

Starting a chat session is as easy as clicking Synapse Chat icon .

  • In the Worklist and PowerJacket, the Chat icon is located next to your user name.  
  • In the Viewer, the Chat icon is located on the Viewer toolbar.

Note:

Synapse saves your chat window size and position. If you log out and then back into the same workstation, any settings that you changed will persist. However, if you log into another workstation, the default view displays.  

Steps

  1. Click Synapse Chat . If you close Synapse Chat, you can open it from the Worklist, PowerJacket, or the Viewer.
  2. Click Compose to display the Title and Participants fields and initiate your chat session. The title field defaults to the date and time on which the chat session was initiated.
  3. Do the following:

Choose this option...

Give your chat session a unique name.

  • Click the X on the right side of the title field to remove the default date and time title.
  • With your cursor in the Title field, type to enter a unique Chat session title.

Add participants to your chat session.

  • The Participants list includes all of the users and roles in your system.
  • Add as many individual users or all users assigned to a particular role as you want.
  • Users are grouped by active and then inactive status and listed alphabetically, by first name.
  • Logged in users are easily identified by a bright green dot that displays next to their names.
  • You can add users or roles whether they are logged in or offline.
  • Offline users will see the chat session notification when they log in.
  • Your selected participant names and roles display in the Participants field.
  • Place your cursor in the Participants field. Type to enter either the first or last name of a user or the role  you want to add to your chat session.
    • As you type, you will see a list of matching filter results display.
    • Click to select the name and add it to the Participants list.
    • Note: Your System Administrator creates the roles available in the drop-down field.

  • Click the green plus sign to display the drop-down list of Synapse users and roles.
    • Click to select the name or role and add it to the Participants list.

Remove participants from your chat session.

  • Click the X on the right side of the Participants name to a user.

Results

An alert displays on for the participants you invited. When a participant clicks the link, the chat session opens.
