Retrieving Studies Configured for Enhanced Display

Introduction

Synapse provides you with the ability to retrieve studies from an external server configured for Enhanced Display, that are disabled (grayed out) on an initial load.

When a study from an Enhanced Display datasource is available in the DICOM cache, Synapse displays retrieved content that includes reports, notes, and documents, when applicable.

Once cached, studies are not updated with new content that might appear in the remote datasource. However, Synapse does not display the Arrival Notification icon when new content is received for Enhanced Display studies.

Note:

  • If a study receives new images on the datasource configured for Enhanced Display, the image count in the Worklist and PowerJacket reflects receipt of the additional images. To access the new images, you will need to reopen the study after the cached images are cleared from dicomCache on the SCU server.
  • If you volumize a series while displaying one of the findings for an image with multiple findings, the volumized series might display the AI findings icon with an asterisk in place of the findings number. This occurs when more than one, but not all of the findings display. For example, the AI findings icon could display */4 instead of 2/4.
  • Additionally, the total number of findings per slice in the 3D slice might differ when you are displaying partial findings in 3D view and then switch to 2D view.

Prerequisites

COMMONVIEW for an Enhanced Display datasource must be configured in SWAT. See your System Administrator for more information.

About this Task

If Auto Compare is configured, studies that have not yet been retrieved will not be considered by the Auto Compare rules until studies are retrieved and the Viewer is refreshed.

Note:

  • If you open a DicomSCU series with multiple sections that can be separately volumized but the sections are not already split, a dialog box opens where you can select specific sections to volumize.
  • Thumbnails for Enhanced Display datasource studies (that are not in the DICOM cache) are not available until the study has been manually retrieved. This applies to the All Thumbnails view for PowerJacket and the Worklist.
    • A Retrieve Study option is available in the PowerJacket context menu when DICOM SCU studies are grayed out.
    • A Not available for display message displays in the Worklist.

Steps

  1. Open a home study or a study on the home datasource that has priors stored on the datasource configured for the enhanced display.
  2. Do one of the following:

    • In PowerJacket, double-click a grayed out study or right-click and select Retrieve Study from the context menu.
    • In the Viewer Studylist, double-click a grayed out study. When studies have fully loaded and are ready for display, they are no longer grayed out.

    Note:

Once Synapse retrieves a study, it is available for any user until the configured expiration time. After that, the user needs to retrieve the study again.

Results

Once Synapse retrieves the studies, the studies are no longer grayed out and are selectable.
