Global Worklists Overview

Introduction

Global Worklists, available in the Worklist pane, provide access to patients and studies across datasources (locations), giving you the ability to view studies from multiple locations within one Worklist.

Note:

  • To view studies in a remote datasource, both your user ID and your user role must exist in both the home and the remote datasource.
  • When the Resolve Duplicate Studies and Advanced Study Permissions settings are enabled, only the highest priority duplicate study displays in Unread Studies Global Worklist. The study count in the Worklist pane includes duplicate studies, but the study count in the Worklist pane does not. If a STAT code exists for each of the duplicate studies, the count for both is added to the Worklist STAT count in the Worklist pane.
  • When the same study is present in both the home datasource and the remote datasource and the Resolve Duplicates setting is enabled: if you have higher and lower priority datasources designated and duplicate studies are detected, only studies from the higher priority datasource will display in the Viewer and PowerJacket studylists.
  • Any changes made to local Worklists in SWAT will not affect Global Worklists.
  • Remember that setting permissions for your local Worklist is a separate task from setting permissions for your Global Worklists.
  • Image count calculation definitions can vary per vendor (where some vendors count Structured Reports and GSPS and others do not). As a result, when viewing studies from a non-Synapse datasource, the image counts might not match the image count that a Synapse datasource provides. The same variance might be present in the Synapse Viewer and PowerJacket, where the viewer only considers images as valid.

  • Data sources are configured in SWAT by your System Administrator.
    • By default:
      • All of the configured datasources are applied to all Global Worklists.
      • With the exception of your home datasource, all configured datasources are unselected until you choose those that you want to use. Your selections will remain unchanged until you choose to modify them.
      • Data source selections persist, regardless of the workstation you use.
    • You can clear any or all of the datasources except your home datasource. Selections persist until you change the datasource options again.
  • Global Worklists include the same indicator icons, tool tips, and thumbnail options as local Worklists.
  • This Globe displays in the My Favorites Worklists to help you quickly distinguish between Global and local Worklists of the same name.
  • The Unread Studies Worklist study count displays for the Unread Global Worklist and any QBE Worklists you create based on the Unread Studies Global Worklist. These counts and STAT counts are an aggregate of all unread studies across the configured (and selected) datasources.
  • Note that study counts and STAT counts do not display for Unread Studies Global Worklists and their associated QBE folders if the parent Unread Studies Global Worklist includes more than 2,000 studies (by default).
  • The Lock (concurrency) displays to indicate that other users with dictation privileges currently have the study open. Hover over the icon to view a list containing the name of the user or users who have the study currently open and how long the study has been open. If another user with dictation privileges currently has the study open and you open it too, a concurrency warning displays the names of the other user or users who have the study open. You are prompted to click OK to open the study or click Cancel to not open the study.
  • Advanced Reporting: The Lock (concurrency) displays to indicate that another user with Advanced Reporting (AR) privileges currently has the study open and the AR procedure report locked. Hover over the icon to view the user who has the report currently open and how long the report has been open. If another user with AR privileges currently has the study open and you open it too, a concurrency warning displays the name of the user who has the report locked. You are prompted to click OK to open the study or click Cancel to not open the study.

Note:

When you attempt to save an annotation for a locked AR study, or another user has saved an annotation (for that study) since you loaded the AR study, a message displays stating that Synapse did not save the annotation.

  • With appropriate permissions, you can use the Set Permissions feature found in the Worklist's context menu to grant or revoke access to a Worklist. Access can be established by role, individual user, or both. See Setting Worklist Permissions.
  • The five available Global Worklist types include the following:
    • All Patients Global
    • All Recent Studies Global
    • All Studies Global
    • Unread Studies Global
    • All Reservations Global

Additional Information

Here is some helpful information about how Global Worklists perform in various areas of Synapse:

  • If you have permissions to dictate or change a study status in your local Worklists, you can make those same changes in a remote datasource using F8, F12, or the context menu.
  • Synapse automatically skips any studies with a status other than Complete (when using an automatic workflow).
  • For Global Worklists, the priority code sort functionality for columns sorts by the SWAT defined designation for IS STAT and then sorts those results alphabetically.
  • The priority code formatting defined in SWAT for the home data source will also be applied to all configured Synapse data sources. Non-Synapse data sources do not have priority data available.
  • Global Worklists display lock and concurrency alerts for studies.
  • Studies and Snapshots from Global Worklists can be added to Collections folders.
  • The Source column displays whenever you are viewing a study from a Global Worklist.
  • The STAT counts that display for Global Worklists include the sum of STAT studies across all configured datasources.
  • Some third-party applications that are configured in SWAT are available for use with remote datasources. See your System Administrator for more information.
  • You can save a reading protocol from your home datasource, but you must manually export reading protocols to other datasources.
