Scanning Documents

Introduction

Paper documents can be scanned through PowerJacket. Synapse adds the scanned image to the associated study.

Prerequisites

In some cases, you might be required to install the scanner plugin to your browser. If so, you will see the following prompt when you first open PowerJacket: This website wants to install the following add-on:'DynamicWebTWAIN' from 'DynamSoft Corporation'.  Click Install.

Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Steps

  1. Use either method to open the Scan Dialog box:
    • From a study-based Worklist, select the preferred study. Right-click to open the context menu and select Scan Documents.
    • In PowerJacket, click Documents in the Information pane. The Documents pane opens. Click Scan.
  1. The Scan Document dialog box opens with the following options.

Option

Description

Name

Click the drop-down list to select the appropriate document type. Document types are labeled and configured by your System Administrator. Scanner options are automatically configured based on the document type you select.

Note:

  • To save a scanned document, you must select a document type.
  • You can modify any of the preset configurations to meet your needs.

Device

Options in this drop-down list are based on the scanner or scanners connected to your workstation.

Click the twistie to display the scanning options.

Scanner Options

Show Scanner Setting: Click to display the tools that the selected scanner provides.

ADF: Auto Document Feeder. Use this option for multi-page documents.

Duplex: Select this option when scanning both sides of a page.

Color Mode

Options include: black and white (B&W), Gray, and Color.

Resolution

Click the drop-down list to select a resolution. Resolution option sizes are by pixel.

Messages

This field displays system-generated status messages as the document scans.

Scan button

Click Scan to scan your documents.

  1. Click Scan. Document scanning starts and a status message displays to let you know your document is scanning. When the scan completes, the scanned image displays.
  2. Use the toolbar to make any modifications to the image.

Icon

Description

Click to rotate the image to the left.

Click to rotate the image to the right.

Click to create a mirror image.

Click to flip an image upside down.

Click to resize the image (in pixels).

Displays the number of scanned images in the document.

  • Click the single arrows to navigate from page to page, going both forward and backward.
  • Click the double arrows to navigate from first to last page.

Click to view thumbnails of scanned images in the document.

Click to delete a single page image document or the selected page of a multi-page document.

Click to delete all pages of a multi-page document.

  1. Click Save. A status message displays to let you know your document is uploading. Click Cancel to cancel the scanned document upload while the message displays.

Note:

  • If you have both of the Information panes open to the Documents pane, changes will not be synchronized until a PowerJacket refresh is performed. To view changes in both Document panes, manually refresh the PowerJacket page, or navigate away from the PowerJacket page and then back again.
  • If you attempt to open another study prior to saving the document, a warning message displays and remains in focus until you save the document.

Results

The scanned document is attached to the study and can be viewed on the PowerJacket Documents pane.
