Shutter Overview

Introduction

Synapse provides the following shutter options: manual shutter, DICOM shutter, horizontal shutter, and shutter without zoom. Synapse displays a Shutter Overlay indicator in the lower right corner of the viewport.

Note:

In a multi-series viewport, manual shutter only applies to the same DICOM series.

DICOM Shutter

If shutter information is available in the DICOM header of an image, Synapse uses that information. A shutter can be rectangular, circular, or polygonal.

When the DICOM information in a series supports shutter, a Shutter Overlay indicator displays. If no DICOM shutter information exists, Synapse makes Enable Shutter option unavailable on the Tools menu to indicate that shutter functionality is not available.

Horizontal Shutter and Shutter without Zoom

Horizontal shutter and shutter without zoom are temporary shutter options.

When you use horizontal shutter, Synapse hides the following on the image:

  • Annotations
  • Mouse cursor
  • CAD findings
  • Scale markers
  • DICOM bitmap overlays
  • Text overlays

When you press ESC or initiate another mouse operation, such as pan or window level, Synapse displays the image without horizontal shutter.

When you apply horizontal shutter, Synapse applies this operation to all open viewports. When you apply shutter without zoom to a viewport, Synapse applies this operation to viewports with the same orientation.

Horizontal shutter and shutter without zoom are not saved with the image.
