VNA Viewer Overview

Introduction

Synapse displays DICOM and non-DICOM images in the Viewer and the Series Picker from a configured VNA datasource.

When you access a VNA datasource, the thumbnails in Series Picker have the following differences:

  • Synapse displays all non-DICOM images associated with a study in one thumbnail in the Series Picker.
  • Synapse displays all non-DICOM files from a patient level folder as individual thumbnails.
  • The image count is the number of non-DICOM object in that thumbnail.
  • At the study level, Synapse does not auto populate the Viewer with the non-DICOM images; however, you can drag and drop the non-DICOM thumbnail into a viewport.
  • At the patient level, Synapse displays the first non-DICOM image in the Viewer in a 1-up page layout.

Note:

  • You cannot add a non-DICOM image to a reading protocol.
  • COMMONVIEW is not available in the case of VNA studies that do not include a patient name.

Synapse VNA Support

Synapse supports most of the Viewer features for VNA. However, Synapse does not support the following Viewer features for VNA DICOM images:

  • MG breast bounds and height alignment
  • Legacy presentation state
  • Bookmarked thumbnails in Series Picker
  • Saved annotations
  • Save to PACs
  • Bookmarks
  • Dictation
  • Snapshots
  • Synapse 4.x

Note:

VNA does not support saving annotations. If the state is reloaded, the annotations do not persist.
