Adding an Elliptical ROI on an Image

Introduction

Use the Elliptical ROI option to highlight an area of interest on an image.

Steps

  1. Right-click the image to display a context menu.
  2. Select Annotations > Elliptical ROI.
  3. Select one of the following options to apply the elliptical ROI to the image:
    • Left-click once to establish the anchor point, move the mouse, and then left-click again to complete the annotation.
    • Left-click and while holding the mouse button down, move the mouse, and then release the mouse button to complete the annotation.

Additional Information

  • Use the major axis anchor points to rotate and resize the elliptical ROI.
  • When you rotate or resize the elliptical ROI, the opposing major axis anchor point remains in a fixed position.
  • The anchor points on the sides are the minor axis points. Use the minor axis points to resize the elliptical ROI.
  • You can resize the elliptical ROI to redefine the major axis anchor points as the minor axis points by shortening the elliptical ROI for the previous major axis to be short and on the sides of the elliptical ROI.

Additional Options

Use one of the following options to create an elliptical ROI:

  • Click Elliptical ROI on the icon menu.
  • Press E + left-click to activate an elliptical ROI with a keyboard shortcut.

Results

Synapse displays ROI measurements as defined in the Annotations panel in User Settings. See Configuring Annotations Settings.
