Fusion Overview

Introduction

Fusion is a process that superimposes or fuses two series that can be volumizable to produce special views. These special views allow the information from two different series to be correlated and interpreted on one image, leading to more precise information and accurate diagnoses.

You can apply fusion to 2D and 3D volumes for any combination of the following modalities:

  • PT
  • NM
  • MR
  • CT

You can use the image context options such as window level and annotations on the fused series. The density option shows the density for both modalities.

Note:

Shutter is not available for fused volumes.

For series with the same Frame of Reference (FOR), Synapse automatically registers the fused series and does not invoke manual registration. If the series do not have the same FOR, Synapse automatically invokes manual registration.

Manual Registration

Sometimes, you might need to adjust the series so that the base and overlay series are at the same anatomical location for the fused series. For example, the base series might be at T1, but the overlay series might be at T3.

Manual registration allows you to manually adjust the series so both the base and the overlay are at the same anatomical location such as T1. See Aligning the Base and Overlay Series.

After you apply fusion to two series, you can adjust the following options for the overlay image for series with the same orientation:

  • Pan
  • Scroll
  • Rotation

Note:

  • When you create a Snapshot, Synapse remembers the latest change for pan, scroll, and rotation.
  • While in manual registration, Synapse removes all annotations from all images in that viewport.
