Printing DICOM Images

Introduction

Synapse provides the ability to print DICOM images to a DICOM printer with consistent image quality output.

Note:
  • DICOM Print is not supported for 2D Slab Thickness, MIP/MPR/MinIP/AvIP, and Fusion.
  • DICOM printers must be configured in SWAT. However, if Clinical Image Use is enabled in SWAT, the compression ratio displayed in the Viewport will be visible in print.
  • The DICOM Print option only supports grayscale printing even though you can preview a DICOM image in color.
  • To print DICOM images in color, use the PDF print option and a configured paper printer. See Exporting and Printing Images.

Steps

  1. Right-click the image or series to display a context menu.
  2. Select Export/Print > DICOM Print from the List menu or from the Icon menu.
  3. Make the applicable selections in the DICOM Print dialog box for the DICOM printout as described in this table.

    4. Option

    Description

    Printer

    Select a printer from a list of available DICOM printers.

    Form

    Select a film size.

    Orientation

    Select an orientation:

    • Portrait
    • Landscape

    Copies

    Enter the number of copies to print.

    Header

    Optional. By default, the header is blank.

    To enter a custom header:

    • Click in the text box.
    • Enter header information.

    Footer

    Optional. By default, the footer is blank.

    To enter a custom footer:

    • Click in the text box.
    • Enter footer information.

    Scope

    Select an image scope:

    • All Images in a Series
    • Selected Images
    • Current Image (default setting)

    Attributes

    Select one or more applicable attributes:

    • Text Overlay (default setting)
    • Annotations (default setting)
    • Anonymize
    • Attempt True Size*
    • Masks (default setting)

    * With True Size, the entire image may not be fully printed if the physical size of the image is bigger than the printed area on the film.

    Page Layout

    Select a page layout:

    • Click Page Layout .
    • In the Page Layout window, select a layout for the DICOM printout.

    Example: If you select the 2-up page layout and you have two images selected, one image displays in the right tile and the other image displays in the left tile.

    Paging arrows
    • Select the right arrow to display the next page.
    • Select the left arrow to display the prior page.

  4. After you have made all of your selections for the DICOM printout, select Print.
  5. Optional. Select Cancel to close the DICOM Print dialog box.

Results

The DICOM printout is spooled to the selected DICOM printer based on the selections made in the DICOM Print dialog box.
