Automated Workflow Overview

Introduction

When opening an unread study, users with dictation privileges (see the Synapse Administrator at your site for details) can mark the study dictated. If you are viewing either the Unread Studies or the All Studies folder and then select a study, the Automated Dictation Workflow control macro starts and opens the next available unread study.

The following features are part of the Automated Dictation Workflow. Please review the safety notice concerning third-party dictation systems.

Note:

The dictation banner is used to indicate the current study is not the study currently open in the dictation system. It does not display when the current study is the one open in the dictation system or when no study is open in the dictation system. The default banner content displays the following text: A Different Study has been Notified to the Dictation System. The banner is customizable through the SWAT tool.

Feature

Description

Automatically opening the next available study.

You can configure the behavior of F8 (Dictate Next) and F9 (Skip Next) keys for automated workflow. If another user has already opened an unread study and that user has dictation privileges, if configured, the workflow macro skips that study and opens the next available unread study.

Temporarily changing the behavior of F8/Dictate or F9/Skip keys while in the Viewer.

You can temporarily alter the behavior of the F8 (Dictate Next) and F9 (Skip Next) keys when moving to the next study for your current session. Depending on the Workflow settings, you can toggle the behavior of these keys (using a right-click menu) and override the current settings for your session.

Automatically skipping reserved or displayed studies.

When studies are displayed or reserved by other users, if configured, the workflow macro will skip these studies.

Exiting automated workflow before reading all studies.

If you want to exit the workflow before reading/dictating all studies in the Worklist, you can press ALT + F8 to mark the study dictated, or ALT + F9 skips the study. After pressing either key combination, the studylist displays again.

Checking concurrency.

When another user with dictation privileges is viewing the same study that you open, a concurrency alert message displays letting you know that another user has that study open.

Marking the study dictated.

After marking a study dictated, the study does not display in the Unread folder.

Automatically skipping reserved or displayed studies.

When studies are reserved or displayed by other users, if configured, the workflow macro will skip these studies.
