Automatically Registering CT and RG Series

Introduction

For CT and RG modalities, use the Image Registration option to automatically line up current and historical series without having to manually insert a delta in each of the series. Image registration allows you to do the following for linked series:

  • Synchronize scrolling
  • Navigate to the same reference point with IntelliLink

Synapse uses an algorithm to compare and find the same anatomical body part in both the current and the historical series.

For example, if you have a current and historical studies that contains an axial, sagittal, and coronal CT series, you can use automatic registration to link all six series in the Viewer at once.

Note:

  • Synapse uses an algorithm for image registration.
  • You might need to manually change the delta for some series. See Enabling IntelliScroll.
  • Apply Image Registration before fusing two studies. If you fuse two series and then apply Image Registration, the overlay series does not adjust according to the anatomy.
  • When you apply a delta, Synapse uses that delta when you use IntelliLink.
  • The following types of studies are not registered:
    • Prior studies in the Series Picker that are not displayed on the Viewer
    • VNA studies

Prerequisites

The modality must be CT or RG.

Steps

  1. Right-click the image to display a context menu.
  2. Select IntelliLink/Scroll > Image Registration. Synapse begins the registration process, which might take a few moments.
  3. Optional: To remove the image registration, select IntelliLink/Scroll > Reset Registration.

Results

Once image registration completes, Synapse links the current and historical series in the Viewer and changes the IntelliScroll linked to the same number for all the linked series. Use IntelliScroll to scroll through all the linked series or IntelliLink to move to the same reference point in the linked series.
