Configuring Series Settings

Introduction

You can customize the following settings for your specific site and study in the Series settings tab:

Path

Settings > Image Display > Series

Steps

  1. Modify the following settings as needed.
  2. When you have finished configuring all settings, click Close to apply and save setting changes.

MR Series Settings

Use the MR Series settings to configure the DICOM Echo and Temporal Position Indicator (TPI) series as a separate or a combined series.

Setting

Description

Separate MR series by echo number

If enabled, Synapse separates images of the same series into multiple series groups using the DICOM Echo tag.

This setting is enabled by default.

Separate MR series by temporal position indicator

If enabled, Synapse separates images of the same series into multiple series groups using the DICOM TPI tag.

This setting is enabled by default.

Separate MR series by image continuity

If enabled, Synapse separates an MR series into separate image sequences to ensure the sequences have uniform spacing and direction.

Note: For enhanced MR mulitframes, Synapse does not use the Multi-frame Dimension Module to split and sort images.

This setting is enabled by default.

CT and PT Series Settings

Use the CT and PT Series settings to configure how Synapse displays CT, PT, and localizer images. You can split CT or PT series, containing localizer and non-localizer images, into two separate series. You can also separate a CT or PT series when the images are non-sequential, have gaps, have the same position, or have different orientations.

Note:

  • If you create a reading protocol with a split series, the reading protocol might not display the split series correctly.
  • Synapse positions a CT study with a dose report, which is represented by a Secondary Capture series, at the end of the DICOM image series and before the All Images and Bookmark series in the Series Picker.

Setting

Description

Separate CT series by localizer

If enabled, Synapse separates localizer and non-localizer images from the same series into two series groups.

This setting is enabled by default.

Separate CT or PT series by image continuity

If enabled, Synapse separates a CT or PT series into separate image sequences to ensure the sequences have uniform spacing and direction.

Note: For enhanced CT multiframe, Synapse does not use the Multi-frame Dimension Module to split and sort images.

This setting is enabled by default.

Display localizer series in reading protocol

If enabled, Synapse displays localizer images in the Viewer for modality and procedure-based reading protocols.

This setting is enabled by default.

CT localizer series position

Select one of the following options:

  • First (default)
  • Last

Synapse displays the localizer series first in the Series Picker and in the modality-match reading protocols.

MG Series Settings

Use the MG Series settings to configure how Synapse displays mammography images. Synapse also supports MG Tomosynthesis series.

Setting

Description

Zoom to breast bounds on initial display

If enabled, Synapse:

  • Automatically magnifies breast images when opening a study, so that the breast tissue of each image fills as much of each applicable viewport as possible.

or

  • Automatically aligns the height and centering of breast pairs when opening a study.

Note: Synapse might not set an image to Zoom to Breast Bounds if the image compression is set to lossy.

This setting is enabled by default.

Show CAD

If enabled, Synapse automatically shows Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) markers when you open a study.

Note: This option is only available only for MG studies.

This setting is disabled by default.

Propagate implant suppression to all images

If enabled, Synapse does the following:

  • Applies breast implant suppression by reducing the breast implant brightness in all 2D and tomosynthesis mammography studies.
  • Toggles the implant suppression for all the active viewports by clicking the Implant Suppression On/Off icon.

If disabled, you can toggle breast implant suppression for the active viewport by clicking the Implant Suppression On/Off icon.

Note:

  • Synapse applies the suppression of all implants for reading protocols.
  • If you apply Reset Image State, Synapse disables implant suppression for all viewports.

This setting is disabled by default.

Implant suppression on initial display

If enabled, Synapse applies breast implant suppression for 2D and tomosynthesis mammography studies by reducing the breast implant brightness on initial display.

Note:

  • Synapse maintains the last user-generated and autogenerated Snapshots of the breast implant suppression.
  • If you apply Reset Image State, Synapse maintains implant suppression for all viewports.

This setting is disabled by default.

PET Series Settings

Use the PET Series settings to determine how Synapse displays the initial top and bottom values for an SUV PET series. These settings affect the brightness, contrast, and appearance of the image for viewing, as you prefer. You can select a value that includes a maximum of four decimal places. The settings you select will persist and be available on any workstation you log into.

Setting

Description

Enable Initial Display

Select the check box to enable the setting and then adjust to the Top and Bottom settings, described in the following two rows of this table.

This setting is disabled by default.

Top

Click plus (+) or minus (-) for each value to select a Top value that is greater than the Bottom value.

The default Top setting is: 3

Bottom

Click plus (+) or minus (-) for each value to select a Bottom value.

The default Bottom setting is: 0

Series Order Options Settings

Use the Series Order Options settings to configure how Synapse sorts and displays a series:

Setting

Description

Order the All images series according to the Series Picker thumbnail order

If enabled, Synapse sorts the All Images series by Series Picker order.

If disabled, Synapse sorts the All Images series according to Synapse rules order.

See Image and Series Sorting.

Split XA/US single-frame images into separate thumbnails

If enabled, Synapse splits XA/US single frame images into separate thumbnails.

If disabled, Synapse combines single frame images into one thumbnail, which displays as the first thumbnail in Series Picker. Images within the single frame series are sorted oldest to newest.

This setting is disabled by default.

Top

Series Picker Display Settings

Use the Series Picker Display settings to configure how Synapse displays the Series Picker and the Anywhere Series Picker. Your System Administrator or a user with the appropriate privilege can enable or disable these settings at the Enterprise, Role, or User level using Administrator Mode.

Setting

Description

Series Picker split scroll bar

Select this option to split the Series Picker toolbar into two toolbars, one for the current study and one for prior studies.

This setting is disabled by default.

Disable Thumbnail Series Description

Select one or more modalities to exclude the thumbnail series description in the Series Picker toolbar and the Anywhere Series Picker.

This setting is disabled by default for all modalities.

Localizer Handling Settings

Use the Localizer Handling settings to configure how Synapse displays localizer series. For CT, PT, and MR studies, the Display localizer series in reading protocol setting is enabled by default and will display the localizer series at the beginning or at the end of a study in both the Viewer and the Series Picker based on the Localizer series position setting status.

Note:

For MR studies, Synapse uses a heuristic algorithm to identify a localizer series, if possible.

Setting

Description

Display localizer series in reading protocol

If enabled, Synapse displays localizer images in the Viewer for modality-match reading protocols.

Note: This setting applies to all reading protocol types.

This setting is enabled by default.

Localizer series position

Select one of the following options:

  • First (default)
  • Last

Using the default setting, Synapse displays the localizer series first in the Series Picker and in the modality-match reading protocols. When you select the Last setting, Synapse displays in the Series Picker after all series containing DICOM images, but before the All Images and Bookmark series.

Results

Synapse automatically saves any updated options and displays the following message in the bottom left corner of the window: Successfully saved.

Synapse displays the following message to alert you that an action must be taken for the settings to apply: Refresh the Synapse browser window for settings to apply.
