Using AutoSummary
Introduction
AutoSummary expedites the reporting process by using AutoSummary routines that are defined for the current workflow of the current report definition.
- Running an AutoSummary Routine
- Restoring AutoSummary Comments
- Running Multiple Instances of an AutoSummary Routine
Running an AutoSummary Routine
Steps
- Ensure that all data has been entered or imported.
- Click Auto Summary on
the application toolbar. The following message displays: Processing Auto Summary
routines.
Warning:
If AutoSummary is no longer synchronized with the data, a warning message displays stating that the AutoSummary routine should be run again when you save or promote a report.
- AutoSummary does not overwrite user entered values.
- Execute AutoSummary Rules
- Restore Deleted AutoSummary Comments
- Synapse adds an AutoSummary indicator to each report section tab that was populated with data as a result of running AutoSummary.
- Synapse does not display the AutoSummary indicator for ICD Codes, or User controls that are updated as a result of running an AutoSummary routine.
- If you delete data that was automatically inserted and you rerun Auto Summary again, Synapse reinserts the data (not including findings comments) into the appropriate report section.
- Note: The findings comments are not re-inserted unless you choose the option Restore Deleted Auto Summary Comments.
- After you edit a findings comment, click anywhere outside the edit box to accept the change.
- The edited finding remains in the list of findings, but the Edited Auto Summary now displays.
- A check mark indicates that the comment will automatically be copied to the conclusions.
- An unselected folder indicates that the comment will only display in the Findings control by default.
- Click Conclusions to automatically copy the comment to the conclusions.
The following table provides a description of the AutoSummary indicators and command icons.

Restoring AutoSummary Comments
Introduction
Use the Restore Deleted Auto Summary Comments option to restore comments for any workflow that you have privileges for. The restore option does not overwrite manually edited AutoSummary comments, and therefore manually edited AutoSummary comments remain unchanged.

Steps
- Select a drop-list option from Auto Summary List on the application toolbar.
- From the drop-down list, select
Restore Deleted Auto Summary
Comments.
The following message displays: Processing Auto Summary routines.
Results

Running Multiple Instances of an AutoSummary Routine
Introduction
Running multiple AutoSummary instances does not have any impact on automatically inserted findings that were modified. Therefore, it is recommended that you do not use Auto Summary until all of the data has been imported or entered, with the exception of applying One-Click Normal. If new data was imported, re-executing Auto Summary will replace existing AutoSummary findings with new findings based on current data values in the report, unless a finding was modified.
Because AutoSummary routines are associated with workflows and multiple workflows might exist for a report definition, multiple AutoSummary routines might exist for a single report definition. The ability to perform functions within a workflow is tied to the user role. It is possible for you to have multiple roles within the Advanced Reporting system. In this instance, when you click Auto Summary, Synapse runs all of the associated routines.
Example Scenarios
A Clinical Reporting Application user is assigned the role of Cath Diagnostic but is not assigned the Interventional role. If the user executes the Auto Summary command, Synapse only runs the Cath diagnostic routine. Synapse adds findings and comments related to only the Cath diagnostics to the report.
If you attempt to promote a report without running AutoSummary since the last data change, a warning message displays: Auto-Summary routine is out of sync. Save without summarizing?
- Yes: Saves and promotes the report without running the AutoSummary routine.
- No: Dismisses the warning message and returns you back to the report to run the AutoSummary routine.
