Synapse Workstation

Synapse Workstation Components

When using the Zero Viewer as the Synapse client, all content including images is rendered on the server. The Synapse Workstation installer allows you to add certain functionality to the Synapse client.

One or more of the Synapse Workstation components can be installed. Synapse Workstation Components that are available for installation are:

Note:

  • Repair: Always uninstall the previous version or incomplete version followed by a new installation. Do not use the Repair button even if the Operating System offers you one.
  • Upgrade: You can upgrade from one version to another of Synapse Workstation Ex without uninstalling the old version. What must never be done is upgrade to a different build of the same version. If you ever have a pre-final build of a version installed and later want to install the final build of that version, you must uninstall the existing one before installing the new one.

To install one or more components, contact your System Administrator or you can access the following in your browser:

http(s)://<Synapse Server>/ex

Follow the on-screen instructions to install. New in Synapse 7.2, this installation can be initiated from Chrome or Edge.

Thin Component

The Thin Component extends the browser with workstation usability functionality. The Thin Component adds the capabilities for consistent cursor positioning during interactive operations on images and enhances multi-monitor support. Note that if you are using a 7.2 client with a 5.7.24x server in Edge in IE mode, Thin Component also supplies the capabilities for shortcuts to use the ALT key, and provides image copy/paste and drag/drop to other workstation applications.

See Thin Component and Zero Viewer.

Synapse Print

The Synapse Print component extends your browser to directly print PDF images to the default Windows printer without launching Adobe PDF. Synapse launches the Adobe PDF viewer for printing in case this component is not installed.

See Exporting and Printing Images.

Hybrid Mode

The Hybrid Mode component will download and prepare images for rendering on the workstation to enhance image viewing such as scrolling and interactivity with images. Images will be rendered on the workstation or the server depending on the image download status; this is called Hybrid Mode.

The Workstation Subscription functionality requires the Hybrid Mode Component.

See Configuring Workstation Cache .

Desktop Agent

The Desktop Agent enables the communication between the Synapse client and other applications installed on the workstation that are used to integrate with Synapse.

See Desktop Agent Overview.

DICOM Transfer to Media

The DICOM Transfer to Media component creates DICOM Part 10 media file sets on optical or other media, allowing distribution of studies to patients in a portable standardized manner. This component provides the means to communicate with workstation devices.

See Exporting DICOM to Media.

Synapse Storage

Note:

This component is required for backward compatibility with Synapse 5.724x to ensure Synapse web pages stay synchronized.

The Synapse Storage component extends Edge in IE Mode to ensure Synapse web pages stay in sync during use with a Synapse 5.7.24x server.

The Synapse Storage component will always be installed as long as any Synapse Workstation component is installed.
