Performing Annotations

Introduction

Synapse supports various types of image annotations, which are available from the context menu. You can access the context menu from either the Viewer list or the icon context menu to perform one or more annotations directly on an image for the current study or for prior studies.

About this Task

You can perform annotations on any viewport for a single or a multiframe series. Use the mouse pointer as a measurement cursor for drawing annotations within the image. The measurement cursor displays as an Arrow icon when you are in annotation mode.

Steps

  1. Right-click the image to display a context menu.
  2. Select Annotations to display a list of the available annotations for the image type.
  3. Select an annotation from the submenu. The following table lists all of the Annotations submenu options and related topics.

  5. Optional: To reposition an annotation, select the annotation and drag it to another location in the image. Adjusting the annotation points updates the values of the modified annotation.
  6. Optional: To change an Annotation label:
    • Click the label in the Results overlay to open a text box.
    • Edit the label name.
    • Press Enter or click outside the text box to complete the change.
  7. Optional: To delete an annotation, do one of the following:
    • Hover over a measurement line in the Results overlay to display the Delete button and click to remove the measurement.
    • Right-click the image to display a context menu. Select Delete.
    • Select the annotation in the image and press the Delete key.
    • Optional: Right-click the annotation in the image to display the context menu and select Reset Annotations to delete all measurements in a study.
When you delete an annotation or protocol measurement from the Results overlay, Synapse also deletes it in the Protocol Panel and in Clinical Reporting Application.
  8. When you have finished adding or editing annotations, right-click the image to display the context menu and select one of the following Annotations options:
    • Save Study Annotations
    • Save Series Annotations

Note:

  • When you attempt to save an annotation for a locked Advanced Reporting (AR) study, or another user has saved an annotation (for that study) after you loaded the AR study, Synapse displays a message stating the Annotations were not saved.
  • The Viewer prevents you from saving annotations for prior Advanced Reporting (AR) studies.

Results

As you complete an annotation on an ultrasound image, Synapse displays the annotation values in an ordered list in the Results overlay. Hover over an annotation in the Results overlay to highlight the annotation in the image.

For Advanced Reporting studies, the annotation values are sent to the Clinical Reporting Application, where they can also be viewed and edited.
